i like transitions. spring and fall, for one. and i like the beginnings and endings of semesters. as a kid, when we moved houses, i liked the strangeness of the empty rooms when all the boxes were gone. i liked looking at the marks on the carpet where the furniture used to be. i liked the first night at the new house. i like airports. i like elevators. i even like daylight savings.

today i saw a dog wriggling her back into the grass. her spine a forward-C to backward-C. her jaw open and her owner just standing there looking at her. she appeared to be having such a good time that, my goodness, i almost lay down next to her to see if it was as satisfying as it looked. animals and small children. when they enjoy something, they really enjoy it.
